Chairman's Report
January's ADM was a tour through snow-covered countryside.  Ringing started at Ashbourne, moved on to Osmaston and then to Duffield where tea was enjoyed and a new committee elected.

Marston-on-Dove proved to be very popular with visitors for our February meeting.  Ringing continued at Etwall and Rolleston.  This was a very helpful meeting for many junior district ringers.

The Striking Contest took place at Breadsall.  Lovely home-made cakes and tea were provided in the church. Our judge, Colin Aked, kindly gave the results and commented on the performances by Duffield and Etwall for the Arthur Ashby Cup and Mugginton for the Horsley Cup, with Etwall and Mugginton going through to the finals.

Glorious spring weather in May provided the backdrop to over thirty ringers at the Mugginton evening practice. A most agreeable district outing in June was kindly organised by Brailsford where we visited six towers in the Charnwood Forest, Leicestershire.

In July, our district hosted the Annual Summer Meeting with ringing at West Hallam, Eastwood and Heanor, drawing in ringers from further afield.  The Heanor ringers provided a wonderful tea before the business meeting and some excellent touches were rung after tea.  The following weekend, we enjoyed our regular get
together with Southern District ringers for the Pot Luck striking competition at Brailsford.

Pentrich was an ideal venue for our young ringers' practice in September.  This regular event is very successful at establishing and bringing on a core of young district ringers.

Regrettably, we were unable to provide a band for the 8 bell striking competition, however we anticipate that in 2011 we will compete once again.

Our October evening meeting at Church Broughton was very well attended and local ringers provided delicious cakes and tea.

Our quarter peal week at the start of November was successful with eight quarters from thirteen attempts.  Six 'firsts' were scored.  This regular feature of our calendar is popular and provides a target for many ringers during the year.

Our final event for the year was the Carol Service.  We linked up with the Southern District at Ticknall for carols, mince pies and mulled wine.

We have many new members, both junior and adult, from Egginton, Brailsford, Ashbourne and Church Broughton.  We are delighted that Jack Chadwick was elected to be an Honorary Life Member of the Association.

Thanks go to all the incumbents, tower captains and secretaries and ringers for making their bells available for District ringing events.

Luke Heaton
