Derbyshire Young Ringers

Derbyshire Young Ringers have certainly had a busy year. Monthly practices have continued to be held at a variety of towers. They have had consistently good and increasing turnouts. We ring anything from Rounds and Call Changes to occasionally some Surprise.
A BBQ was held in August after some ringing at Chesterfield. There was a great turnout and some excellent ringing. The monthly practices continued into the end of the year, induding visits to Pinxton, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Sawley and a ring on the newly restored bells in Alfreton.
We also rang some significant peals and quarters over the year: Congratulations to Evie Newton and Rosie Hall who rang their first peals, also congratulations to Johnathon Hallowes who rang his first quarter peal. The most memorable for me would be the quarter peal at Duffield for the A-level results, after about ten minutes the clapper of my bell fell out. We later discovered that the clapper had broken the slider on its way down too! The quarter peal was still achieved but on a different eight bells.
We entered a team in the RWNYC held in Oxford in the Summer. We came second place with grade A striking and won gold medals! At the end of the Year our photograph of the RWNYC team went viral! It appeared on several pieces of ringing propaganda and articles from all over the country. It was an exciting and unexpected twist to the end of a successful year of ringing in Derbyshire.
