QUARTER PEAL REPORT 2015

This report is based on performances published on Bell Board, either credited to the Association or rung by Derbyshire local ringers.
333 quarter peals were rung, an encouraging number.
The Peak District held a Quarter Peal Day in October; the Southern District held a Quarter Peal Week, also in October. 5 quarters were rung by Derbyshire Young Ringers.

Leading towers
The following church bell towers had 5 or more quarters: Derby Cathedral 36, Derby St Peter 22,
Ashford in the Water 15, Ticknall 14, Youlgreave 14, Duffield & Etwall 11 each, Ashbourne, Church Gresley, Ilkeston, Melbourne, Sandiacre, 8 each; Brailsford, Darley Dale, Elton, Shirland, 7 each; Breadsall, West Hallam 6 each; Alfreton, Burbage, 5 each.
The Cathedral scored most of theirs for evening services, while John Cater's new band at Church Gresley did not begin their impressive run until July.
Quarters were scored on mini rings at Allestree Green Ring 6, Belper Campanile 5, and Lichfield Diocesan
Mobile Belfry at the Peak 2015 site at Chatsworth 1.

Handbell quarters
32 quarters were rung on handbells.
The leading places/bands are Wilsthorpe Road, Breaston where all 15 quarters were rung on New Year's Eve in different rooms using various personal sets of bells, and Blackden Close, Belper, with 11.

Personal milestones
Individual firsts are too many to mention all of them, but amongst them were: John Cater rang his 3250th Q (handbells) on 24th February.
Sue Marshall circled the tower to quarters at Long Eaton on 25th April.
Johanna Westwood rang her 50th Q on 26th April at Derby Cathedral. 
Emily Hall rang her first on a mini ring at Belper Campanile on 7th June. 
Richard Westman rang his 100th Q at the same time.
Moira Johnson rang her first quarter for about 23 years at Church Gresley on 29th July.

Notable events marked by quarter peals
In addition to service ringing and many birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, new children and grandchildren: 
Alfreton had their first quarter since the restoration of the bells on 5th June, and Ilkeston their first since rehanging, 22nd November.
Church Gresley had its first quarter on the bells since 2005 on 29th July; the tower had been under repair.
Ashbourne celebrated the 200th anniversary of the casting of their bells in August.

Quarters were rung in memory of ringers Reuben Carlisle, Adrian Semken, David Robinson of Youlgreave, Brian Cooper of Stanton in the Peak, Peter Taylor of Darley Dale and Mike Willis of Duffield.
A quarter was rung for Derby St Luke's tower captain Colin Lancaster's 80th birthday in September at Derby Cathedral.
The 800th anniversary of Magna Carta, the 70th anniversary of VE Day and Queen Elizabeth II's becoming our longest-reigning monarch were all marked with more than one quarter.
