Secretary’s report
It has been a year of rather mixed attendance. We held five district practices with an average of twelve ringers, usually the same ones. Three of these practices were held in the Long Eaton area, as they had seemed rather left out in the past.
The Horsley and Arthur Ashby cup heats were held at Breaston on March 31st. West Hallam and Long Eaton went forward to represent the district in the final.
A training day was offered but as there were no takers it was cancelled.
We held a district outing on June 9th in the Peak district area. This was quite successful though not such wonderful weather as the previous year. Ringing was held at Bakewell, Great Longstone, Burbage, Fairfield, Bamford and Hathersage. Ringing on Bamford’s new bells was quite a rewarding experience. The Outing was quite well attended though it would have been nice to know who was coming as we had a late alteration.
The summer meeting and eight bell contest was held in the district on July 7th. The contest was held at West Hallam, with afternoon ringing at Attenborough. Sawley was the venue for the meeting, service and evening ringing.
We held a quarter peal day, but interest was low with two attempts and one success.
Thanks are extended to everyone who attended and helped to organise the events. Thanks also to Tower Captains and clergy for the use of the bells.
