EDUCATION COMMITTEE REPORT

Education Committee Members: -

Chesterfield District Karen Jeffrey and Don Jones
Derby District Gill Hughes and Alec Humphrey
Ilkeston District Alison Barnett
Peak District Bob Burfitt and Philip Mehew

During the year the committee has tried to build on the success of the previous years courses. Once again the idea was to have one Association training event in each district. Derby District hosted 'Teaching Handling' which was well received by the participants and Ilkeston District hosted a Cambridge course, which proved so popular that the minor session needing to split into two groups.

Unfortunately 'Mastering Stedman' which should have been in the Chesterfield District had to be postponed due to a lack of competent helpers and 'Computers and Ringing' in the Peak District was cancelled due to a lack of participants. There have been unforeseen problems in the distribution of advertisements for courses and the committee has been looking at alternative arrangements for notifying towers about training events including making more use of e-mail.

The four districts all continue to hold local training sessions to suit the particular needs of members within their own towers and these have included lots of Plain Hunt days, regular Plain Bob Doubles and Plain Bob Minor sessions as well as Rounds and Call Changes. Extra practices arranged around a particular method with competent ringers drafted in, have also proved popular in some districts.

The committee would like to thank everyone who has helped with training over the last year especially those who attend extra practice nights on a regular basis in order to help a tower other than their own make progress. Training is not just done by the Education Committee; it is a much wider team and the committee would like to hear from you about what you are doing and what, with help, you would like to do. The committee may be able to offer the help you need but if we can't then we might just know a man who can.
