2002 started a bad year for the Ilkeston District. Morale was low and various activities had to be cancelled due to lack of support. In August a meeting was convened in Long Eaton to discuss the possible merger of Ilkeston District with Derby District. The outcome of this meeting was a partially new committee with Muriel and Alison hoping to start to revitalise the district.
Our first success, the quarter peal day (which had been previously cancelled), took place with two out of three quarters being scored and three first quarters in Major for John & Betty Marshall and Elaine Baines, also Elaine's 50th quarter scored at Diseworth. Many thanks to our friends from Derby District who helped to make this possible.
We are leaving 2002 behind on a positive note and are looking forward
to a very successful 2003. Again we express our thanks to all who helped
Ilkeston District throughout the year.
