Secretary’s Report
2003 started well. A district meeting at Ripley that was to have been cancelled, due to no ringing taking place went ahead and found some more ringers for Ripley who are being trained at Denby.
The striking contest heats took place at Long Eaton (at the same time as a stations of the cross service as the Incumbent had double booked!!) All but 2 towers entered and both Sawley and West Hallam went through.
It was decided to move the district practice to the 3rd Saturday of each month rather than a midweek practice and these have been well attended with a ‘method of the month’ being rung at all but the last. We had a good mix of abilities and local ringers / visitors and hopefully everyone found them useful and enjoyable. Many thanks must go to all Tower Captains and Incumbents for their support throughout this year.
The District Quarter Peal day did not get organised.
The year ended on a low with the deaths of Derek Camm in October and John Marshall in November. John has been an active member of the Ilkeston District Committee for many years as well as tirelessly supporting all the towers around him in a way that will leave a very large hole. Our sympathies go out to both families.
