QUARTER PEAL REPORT | Quarter Peal Detail

This analysis and report is based upon quarter peals published in the Ringing World from issue 4788 to issue 4839. Therefore it does not include quarters, which for various reasons may not have been published. Neither does it include the thirty-two quarters, which should have been included in last year's report, but were published far too late, in some cases over a year after the performance, to be included in the analysis for 2003. However, since they included several first quarter pealers they are listed below with the other firsts for this year. Those people who make such comparisons will notice that the figures quoted for last year do not match last year's report. This is because of the considerable post-publication revision of last year's analysis occasioned by the late quarters. I have also included a quarter at Sudbury that I missed last year. I repeat again my plea from last year to conductors. Please endeavour to submit your performances to the RW within a reasonable period.

Where figures are quoted in brackets they are for previous years.

The number of quarter peals recorded for the year was 328 (328, 349, 327).

Special Performances

Commemorative quarters were rung to celebrate the lives of Marjorie Phipps, John Marshall and Derek Camm. The weddings of Teresa Wyke and Paul Vincent at Netherseal, Carol Walsh & Peter Browne at Overseal, and Meriel Hughes and Andrew Gainsbury of Derby Cathedral were celebrated with quarters; as were the births of Eleanor Humphrey (daughter of Simon of Darley Dale) and James Wiltshire (son of Pat & Matthew, both of Derby St Peter). A band ringing, over a period of three years, quarters for evening services at Etwall, completed an alphabet of delight minor methods from Antarctica to Zuzzex.
