LAWRENCE (LOLL) GASCOYNE 1911-2003
This tribute was written by Vic Cox and published in the Ringing World
We regret to announce that Loll died on 10th January, aged 91 years. His funeral took place at Brimington Crematorium on Thurs. 23rd January attended by over 100 mourners and friends. Loll was an honorary life member of the Derby Diocesan Association, which he joined in 1947, and a regular ringer at ‘The Crooked Spire' Chesterfield, Old Whittington, Dronfield, Bolsover and other towers in the area. He taught many new ringers throughout his long association with ringing, but his activities did not stop there. He was very fond of dancing, probably something, coupled with ringing, that kept him so active right up to the end. In the year of his 90th birthday, he declared he wanted to both ring and dance on that day, and he pretty much succeeded. Up until his final year he would climb the 56 spiral stones steps to the Dronfield ringing chamber and jump down the remaining 4 steps to the floor like a teenager. We will miss him at our meetings and our thoughts are with those left behind, particularly Irene, his children, grand children and great grand children.
